Welcome to the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council's (EPSRC), Life Sciences Interface Network for Patient Monitoring and Non-Invasive Physiological Measurement, based within the Imaging Science and Biomedical Engineering Department (ISBE) at the University of Manchester.

After imaging, non-invasive physiological measurement in one form or another is one of the most important diagnostic methodologies used in health care. It includes ECG, EMG and other bio-electric measurements; it underpins patient monitoring and treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU); the operating theatre during anaesthesia, and it is an integral part of services such as audiology.

Future developments in this field will have an enormous impact on the development of Information Technology in medicine, especially telemedicine. Thus, the benefits of research into these techniques is very widespread in health care and in applied physiology in general.

Current research in these areas is somewhat fragmented due to its multi-disciplinary nature. There are many groups in various disciplines, institutions and types of department developing relevant techniques and methods, and cross-interest fertilisation in such a wide field is very difficult.
